Why join the sponsorship program?
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club was established in 1980 with the goal to promote sailing and watersports in and around the island of St Maarten. It organizes multiple sailing events throughout the year, with the crown jewel being the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, a major Caribbean keelboat regatta & the St. Maarten Optimist Championship, one of the biggest Optimist regattas in the Caribbean for kids ages 7 – 15.
The club’s Youth Sailing Program stimulates local youngsters to become part of the sailing community, teaching them life skills such as team work, perseverance and confidence. This program plays a major role in educating the next generation of sailors. We currently teach 150 students for the duration of the season, these kids come for weekly lessons, ~50% of these students won’t be able to sail without the support of our sponsors. Through its active event calendar, the club and its members are engaged in many community involvement activities, always looking to further develop sailing on St Maarten.
The reach of the SMYC is extensive and includes a broad target market, including locals, expats, regular visitors from North America & Europe, parents, sailors, local, regional and international media and of course this is not limited to members only. The SMYC connects sponsors to its audience and offers many exposure opportunities and activations that benefit your business and brands.
Most importantly, by supporting our club and Youth Sailing Program, you will allow us to introduce more local youngsters to sailing, offering them a fun and active way to develop themselves and broaden their horizon.

The SMYC organizes “afterschool classes”, Monday – Friday, but unfortunately not everyone is financially able to enjoy these classes.

Primary School Program
The Primary school sailing program allows kids to come and sail during school time as an alternative PE class for free.
Not only do they get the opportunity to learn how to sail, they also get introduced to all aspects of the maritime industry on Sint Maarten.
Racing Team
The Racing Team consists of a smaller group of kids motivated and dedicated to competitive sailing.
These kids represent Sint Maarten on an international level and share their passion and knowledge with their peers in other programs.
Sailability
Twice a week students that are differently abled come to the Yacht Club to enjoy free sailing classes.

sponsor a student – $ 800 per year per student
Students that have been introduced to the sailing program through the Primary School Program or our Summer Camp through a sponsorship, often want to continue sailing in the after-school sailing program.
When financial means are not available the SMYC looks for sponsors. This can be an individual or a business. Your financial contribution helps us
cover the costs of the sailing classes.
Sponsors can also suggest potential candidates as the personal involvement contributes greatly to the overall success of the student. This is based on availability of a space in the program.
Primary school Sailing program
Support our Primary School Sailing Program where currently 48 students are enjoying free* weekly sailing classes during school hours.
Gold Package – $ 6000
This allows 1 group of 12 students to sail for 1 full school year.
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:

Silver Package – $ 3000
This allows 6 students to sail for 1 full school year.
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:
- The name of your company on 1 Optimist Hull or RS Zest Sail for 1 year.
- Mention in a minimum of 3 press releases
- A minimum of 2 mentions on Social Media with pictures of the project.
- The company logo on SMYC Website Primary School Sailing Program Page.
Bronze Package – $1000
This contributes towards starting a new group in the primary school sailing program.
Guaranteed Exposure plus Additional exposure:

*: We ask the schools for a $100 contribution per student per season (this is about $3 per lesson and is only a incentive to avoid unnecessary absence of students during the lessons)
Sponsor our racing team
THE Dedicated and motivated youth representing Sint Maarten in international events. This is a group of talented sailors that go to different international regatta’s every year. Becoming a racing team sailor is not easy, you need to show absolute dedication to the sport & still perform well in your day to day like your school grades to.
Being able to do this is a huge financial stress on the parents, and the kids themselves. The SMYC believes in and supports equal chances, by sponsoring the racing team you give these sailors a chance to grow and compete on a international stage.

Guaranteed exposure plus additional exposure:
- Title sponsor of the SMYC Racing team for 1 year.
- Your logo on our PFD’s (Lifejackets), great visibility on the water.

All contributions, big or small, help towards putting these kids on the international stage. Contributions will be put towards travel expenses, registration fee’s and coaching costs.

Sponsor our Sailability program
In the Sailing world Sailability programs are often seen. Even when you have a physical or mental disability, sports are still so important, as daytime activity but also to build self-confidence and focus, each student on their own level and based on individual capabilities.
The SMYC is collaborating with the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation, 6 selected students, challenged with a mental or physical disability, from their day-activity program will join these special sailing classes twice a week, starting in August 2023.
