Since 2018, the Sint Maarten Yacht Club Sailing School is able to provide free sailing classes for primary schools on Sint Maarten, during school hours.
With support from The World Bank funding R4CR, the program was able to grow to 48 sailors in 2022.
Currently the program is running on donations from private individuals and corporate businesses, in combination with subsidy from the Sports Department, Sint Maarten Government.
The SMYC is providing sailing classes to the following schools:
– Sister Regina Primary School
– Seventh Day Adventist School
– Leonard Connor School
– All Children Educated (ACE) Foundation
As part of the primary school program, the SMYC offers the Swim 2 Sail Program.
This is a program especially for the kids that are not able to swim yet or don’t feel comfortable being around the water. We work together with a swimming teacher, to get the kids up to a level where it is safe to take them sailing.
