Sailability at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club

One of the goals of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is to make sailing available for a broader audience. In the Sailing world Sailability programs are often seen. Even when you have a physical or mental disability, sports are still so important, as daytime activity but also to build self-confidence and focus, each student on their own level and based on individual capabilities.

With a special boat – called a RS Venture Connect – designed for this purpose, the SMYC launched their Sailability project in July 2023, funded by the World Trust Fund, with assistance from R4CR.

The boat is very stable and safe, having 2 seats facing forward, the students are involved in the sailing and can develop their skills.

The SMYC is collaborating with the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation, 4 selected students, challenged with a mental or physical disability from their day-activity program will join these special sailing classes twice a week, starting in August 2023.

The SMYC is excited to establish and grow this program, to give more people the opportunity to sail and develop new skills.
