The 2023-2024 Grant Thornton Keelboat Championship kicked off on Sunday, November 5th. In this opening race, three Melges 24’s, Carib Diesel, Island Water World, and Budget Marine, set sail in the CSA 1 class.

Team Carib Diesel was led by Erwan, who sailed together with his friend William and Erwans his three sons, making it a wonderful family effort on the water.

Team Island Water World faced some boat trouble and had to fix their halyard. While they did that the other teams patiently waited for them to resume racing. This demonstrates true sportsmanship!

Wessel Tangenberg, the race officer, and Ferdinand Kopper, assisting on the race committee boat, managed to start three up-and-down course races. Island Water World clinched the first position in all three races, with Budget Marine securing second place and Carib Diesel landing in third place consistently throughout the event.

During the race a lot of nice pictures were taken, which can be viewed on the Sint Maarten Yacht Club website, along with the race results.

As we look forward, the Sint Maarten Yacht Club will host the 20th edition of La Course de Alliance, scheduled for December 1st to December 3rd. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to race to Saint Barths, Anguilla, and back to Sint Maarten.

The next race for the 2023-2024 Grant Thornton Keelboat Championship is set for January 7th, promising more thrilling action on the water. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready for a fantastic season of keelboat racing.
