On Sunday January 7th, the SMYC hosted the first race of the new year: The second race day of the Grant Thornton Keelboat Season Championship. The event featured a total of 11 boats, including 7 Diams and 4 Melges, competing in three races per class. The crowded Simpson Bay Lagoon saw the first race, while the next two races sailed to Indigo for a more spacious course. Sunday’s conditions were ideal with a moderate breeze of around 14 knots, allowing the Diams to sail without some of the safety restrictions.
In the CSA 1 fleet, Team IWW claimed the first place, Team Budget Marime sailed into second position, followed by Team FKG.
In the Diam 24 fleet Cry Baby secured the top spot of the podium, followed by Buzz Race Team in second place with only 1 point difference from Cry Baby and Karibuni in third place.
A special thanks to the dedicated volunteers – Clenda, Corrine, Peter, and Iain for their commitment and hard work during this Keelboat race.
