Sint Maarten Yacht Club proudly announces the successful completion of the Swim 2 Sail Program for all 48 children participating in the Primary School Program. The Swim 2 Sail Program is part of the Primary School Program and is created to empower children who are not yet comfortable in the water or unable to swim. During the mid-year ceremonies, all participants received their well-deserved Swim 2 Sail certificates and are now safe and confident enough to start their sailing classes.

The 48 students represent four schools in the program: Sister Regina Primary School, Seventh Day Adventist School, Leonald Connor School, and All Children Educated (ACE) Foundation. These schools sail for free, once a week at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The swimming and sailing experience they gain is not only fun but also promotes teamwork and a sense of achievement among the young sailors.

Each of the four schools celebrated the achievements of their young sailors with small ceremonies attended by proud parents and supportive teachers. Besides receiving their certificates, students also received a red sailing shirt personalized with the name of their respective schools on the back.

“It is always great to see the kids develop from being scared and insecure to growing and enjoying what they are doing. I am looking forward to seeing the kids develop even more throughout the rest of the season in their new sailing gear!” said Wessel Tangenberg, the sailing instructor of the Primary School Program.

All of this is made possible by our highly appreciated sponsors. Thank you to Guastavia Yacht Club, Department of Sports, Independent Consulting Engineers, and Lagoon Maria for sponsoring the program. Also, a big thank you to T-maxx and Bob Hilbert for providing us with the shirts and the print on them.

The Sint Maarten Yacht Club looks forward to a continued and successful sailing season, with the newly certified young sailors enjoying the waters in their distinctive red shirts, proudly representing their schools.
