Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) — The 9th edition of the Domino’s Interschool Regatta is coming up this Saturday, May 30, at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, and there’s a lot of excited racers ready to take to the water.
The Domino’s Regatta is a unique event to cap off the sailing school season for SMYC’s primary school and afterschool programs, as 45 sailors from 10 schools will compete in Sail Qubes, Optimists, RS Zests, and RS Quests for individual and team awards.
Registration and rigging begins at 8:00 am, the skipper’s briefing will be at 8:45, and then racing starts at 9:35. What makes this regatta different from others run by SMYC is that the start/finish line is set directly off the club’s docks, which creates a fun viewing atmosphere for family, friends, and teachers to cheer the kids on.

From the start, the racers will head out into Simpson Bay Lagoon to buoys placed near the causeway bridge and then back to the finish line. The competition is sure to be tight in all the fleets, as the racers have been practicing all year in anticipation of this event.
“This is a fun regatta for the kids and their families, and even for our sailing coaches, who have worked with them for months to get to this point,” said SMYC’s Sailing Director, Sam Peeks. “Their hard work and dedication pays off when they get out on the race course, and it’s great that they get to represent their schools.”
Racing will conclude around noon and will be followed by a pizza lunch graciously donated by Domino’s Pizza, who also generously covers the entry fee for all of the racers. After lunch, the day’s events will finish with prize giving at 2 PM on SMYC’s docks.
Who will win this year’s Domino’s Interschool Regatta and take bragging rights back to their school? We’ll find out on Saturday!
