Martinique — February 2026 — A combined youth team from the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC), Saint Martin Voile Pour Tous (SMVT), and the St. Kitts & Nevis Sailing Association (SKNSA) delivered outstanding performances at a major regional regatta in Martinique, highlighted by a championship title and strong fleet results. Sailors competed in highly variable conditions, including light and shifting winds, rain, and large, competitive fleets that placed a premium on strong starts and tactical decision-making.
ILCA Fleet Highlights
The team achieved podium finishes in two ILCA classes:
Clément Le Normand (SMVT) – 1st Overall, ILCA 4
Massimo Lapierre (SMYC) – 3rd Overall, ILCA 6
Le Normand secured the overall victory after a closely contested final day. Lapierre sailed consistently to earn his podium finish before departing immediately to continue his international campaign at the ILCA Midwinter Regatta in Miami.

Optimist Fleet Results (49 sailors)
The Optimist team showed strong determination and steady progress:
Nathan Sheppard (SMYC) – 11th Overall
Adam Gumbs (SMVT) – 22nd Overall
Greyson Burrell (SKNSA) – 29th Overall
Saul Claus (SMVT) – 6th Benjamin, 35th Overall

Several sailors achieved top-10 race finishes during the regatta. With only one discard and 13 races sailed, frequent black-flag starts, consistency was critical, making these results a strong developmental performance.
“The level was very high and the conditions were challenging and unpredictable. With large fleets and shifting winds, the start and the first minutes of each race were crucial. I’m very proud of how the sailors adapted, supported each other, and kept improving throughout the week,” said Coach Sam Peeks.
With a championship title, a podium finish, and strong fleet results, the team returns home with confidence and momentum for the season ahead!
