about the program
The mission of SMYC’s Youth Sailing Program is to provide our youth with the opportunity to learn and enjoy sailing and racing. Sailing nurtures and builds confidence, team skills, self-reliance, physical strength, critical thinking, and a love for the environment.
Our lessons are Monday – Friday after school, from 3:30 to 6 pm. Or on Saturday morning from 9 to 11.30 am.
There is the option to either have one or multiple lessons per week. We give kids the opportunity to choose their own paths of achieving pure sailing skills or more competitive racing and joining regatta’s.
Our regular sailing lessons run in a yearly program, unfortunately it is not possible to join for just a week or month. As an alternative, we offer private lessons, summer camps, and fun sails.
The 2025/2026 season will start in the week of September 1, 2025.
IYT SAILING CERTIFICATION
Since 2022, we are handing out internationally valid sailing diploma’s at the end of the season when the sailor has reached a specific level.
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club Sailing School, with help from the Maritime School of the West Indies, is using International Yacht Training (IYT) as the structure of the program and certification.

ALL STUDENTS HAVE TO REGISTERED VIA IYT. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
You will need a copy of your passport and ID on your computer to upload to your profile.
Register online as a student via this link: https://www.iytworld.com/students/
After registration, you will receive a student number. Please fill this number in on the SMYC Registration Form.
2025 – 2026 REGISTRATION
Please note you need your ITY number to be able to sign up, see instructions above.
In addition to the registration form, we need the following to complete your registration:
Three documents filled out and signed:
– The IYT Enrollment form and Waiver (two in one pdf)
– The SMYC Activities Waiver

Your payment needs to be made before the start of the first lesson. For payment options you can choose to pay per term or for the whole year. Monthly payment options are available on request, for more information email sam@smyc.com.
