The St. Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) is thrilled to announce that it will host the prestigious 2024 Caribbean Dinghy Championship (CDC) from October 25-27, 2024. This highly anticipated event promises to bring together the region’s top sailors for an exciting weekend of competitive dinghy racing and camaraderie.

The SMYC previously hosted the CDC regatta in 2022, showcasing its excellent facilities and the vibrant sailing community of St. Maarten. Last year, the championship was held in Martinique at the esteemed Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher, setting a high standard for this year’s event.

“We are honoured to once again host the Caribbean Dinghy Championship,” said SMYC Commodore, Frits Bus. “Our team is dedicated to providing a memorable experience for all participants and spectators, and we look forward to welcoming sailors from across the Caribbean to our beautiful island.”

The 2024 CDC will feature a variety of dinghy classes, including the Optimist, RS Zest, RS Quest, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 fleets.

There will be individual rankings for each class, but all eyes will be on team Antigua regarding the Nations Cup. In 2019, 2022, and 2023, team Antigua managed to prove themselves as the strongest Caribbean dinghy sailing team.

Last year’s championship saw fierce competition from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Martinique, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Kitts and Nevis. We hope to see these competitors return for the 2024 edition, and we are also expecting participation from French St. Martin and St. Barths.

“We anticipate a fantastic turnout and an exhilarating weekend of sailing,” added Dolein van de Loo, Event Coordinator at the SMYC. “The Caribbean Dinghy Championship is a celebration of our shared passion for sailing and a chance to strengthen the bonds within our regional sailing community.”

The CDC is owned by the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA). The CSA is dedicated to promoting and developing sailing in the Caribbean. It serves as the governing body for sailing in the region, supporting a wide range of events and initiatives to foster growth and excellence in the sport. The association plays a crucial role in uniting the Caribbean sailing community, ensuring high standards of competition, and encouraging participation at all levels.
