The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) and Kidz At Sea are thrilled to unveil a pioneering training program, aimed at fostering local talent within Sint Maarten’s vibrant marine industry. This program is made possible through the generous support of a grant from Resources for Community Resilience (R4CR) in its 7th round of funding. The initiative seeks to address the challenges faced by the SMYC in recruiting and retaining instructors from abroad by offering local individuals the chance to gain the skills and certifications necessary to become proficient small boat sailing instructors.

Recognizing the importance of the marine industry as a foundation of the island’s economy—second only to tourism—this new program aspires to strengthen the connection between Sint Maarten’s residents and the marine sector. It promises not only to enhance job opportunities for locals but also to ensure the sustainability of this crucial industry.

Program Overview:
Training Opportunity: Participants will engage in an intensive 3-month program that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on sailing experience. By the end of the program, participants will obtain both their sailing and instructor certifications, positioning them for successful careers in the marine industry.

Schedule: The training is scheduled for 4 days a week, including one day over the weekend, and is set to start in mid-April.

Eligibility: The program welcomes applicants aged 19 to 30 who are eager to embark on a marine career and are currently not employed. The ability to swim is a must, and while previous experience in watersports is advantageous, it is not strictly necessary.

How to Apply:
We invite all interested individuals, motivated to navigate their future towards a career in sailing instruction, to apply for this unique training program. Please submit your resume and a letter of motivation to the Sint Maarten Yacht Club Office, conveniently located next to Nowhere Special. Direct your applications to Saskia Revelman.
