The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is a small club, with a very informal atmosphere, making it a welcoming ‘home’ to many. The membership consist of 150 members. Many of whom live off island for part of the year.

Why become a member?

The foremost reason why people join the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is to support the Youth Sailing Program, and allow us to introduce more local youngsters to sailing, offering them a fun and active way to develop themselves and broaden their horizon.

As a member you can enjoy the following advantages:

– Take out one of our boats, you have the choice of RS Quests, RS Zests and Optimists
– Get discounts on sailing lessons and other activities.
– Enjoy the social events organized for members (and guests). 

– Receive a 10 % discount on SMYC merchandise
– Show your membership card at the SMYC bar/restaurant and receive a 10% discount on your check.


How to become a member?

below. Please print the form and fill it out, don’t forget to sign it and bring it by or email it to saskia@smyc.com.

The colored blocks below explain the different types of membership. For full members there is an initiation fee that applies. More information about the initiation fee can be found at the bottom of this page.

Please be aware that all memberships are invoiced per calendar year. 

Resident 

Resident = over 6 months on island, per year

Individual Full Membership

$200 (annually) + a one-time initiation fee of $200 = 1 vote

Family Full Membership

$300 (annually) + a one-time initiation fee of $200 = 2 votes

Non-resident

Non – Resident = less then 6 months on island, per year

Individual Supporting Membership

No initiation fees. 
$200 (annually) = no voting rights

Family Supporting Membership

No initiation fees.
$300 (annually) = no voting rights

Temporary Membership 

Temporary = 3 months

Individual Temporary Membership

$75 (for up to 3 consecutive months max) No initiation fee but does not confer rights for permanent membership.

Family Temporary Membership

$100 (for up to 3 consecutive months max) 

No initiation fee but does not confer rights for permanent membership.

Corporate Membership 

Corporate Membership 
$800 Annual Fee 
+ $ 200 per employee  

Number of employees to be decided by corporation.

No voting rights!


Junior Membership

Junior Membership  

Age – between 7 and 17 years old. 

$150 Annual Fee 

No initiation fee.

Invoiced per sailing season (September / September)

Initiation Fee

The standard initiation fee of $200 with the following conditions:​

– Initiation fees are waived if the party was part of a family membership before

– If the party was previously a member of a yacht club in another jurisdiction, was a current member for at least 5 years and can show proof of such, the initiation fee may be waived at the discretion of the SMYC Board of Directors. If the party wishing to be considered for membership considers themselves to have made substantial contributions to yachting in the past and on that basis wishes to have their initiation fee waived, then may apply in writing to the SMYC Board of Directors.

– Parties who resign from the club for reasons specified in a letter to the SMYC Board of Directors and are considered to be reasonable; when wishing to become members again they may apply and their initiation fee may be waived on that basis. In respect of the interpretation of Family Membership and voting, both members of a couple are assumed to be voting members and full members of the club. Family members (children) above the age of 18 years are not included in Family Membership.

– Initiation fees can be refunded to persons in the first three years after having paid the initiation fee if they leave the island. Up to the end of the second year, they can receive a return of 75% of the initiation fee. After the end of the second year and until the end of the third year, they can receive a return of 60%. After three years, there is no refund possible
