The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is delighted to announce the first SMYC Captains Cup, a sailing event dedicated to supporting youth sailing on the island. As part of the Lagoon Festival 2024, an event of the Sint Maarten Marine Trade Association, this exciting event will take place on Sunday, March 24th, commencing at 1:00 PM local time.
The SMYC Captains Cup invites captains or crew members from various marinas to team up with local youth sailors in a thrilling race aboard RS Quest boats. Participating marinas include: Skyport Marina, The Yacht Club at Port de Plaisance, IGY Marinas, Palapa Marina, and Dock Maarten, each with 1 or 2 representatives. The event aims to raise funds for the SMYC youth sailing program while showcasing the talents of young sailors from the region.
“We are excited to launch the SMYC Captains Cup, uniting the sailing community in Sint Maarten for a day of competition and camaraderie to support our youth sailing program,” said Saskia Revelman, Manager of SMYC. “It is going to be a fantastic day on the water, and we invite everyone to join us in supporting our young sailors.” The top three teams will be awarded trophies, with a special “Captains Cup” floating trophy presented to the overall winners. The event is scheduled to take place at the Simpsons Bay Lagoon from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by the prize-giving ceremony at 5:15 PM at IGY Marina
